We have been “fostering” a relationship with Horry County Animal Care Center for some time. Recently we brought home two 4 month old German Shepherd mix puppies that we named Mandy (dark fur) and her sibling Matteo (tan with black snout) for a short stay. We were able to get Mandy showcased thru social media adopted and now working on her brother. Back in November we participated in the “Doggy Day Home for the Howlidays” program. This allows a dog to have a mini vacation from the shelter, decompress and spend time with a loving family. Kennel Supervisor Naomi Jenkins was our tour guide and contact from this point forward. We were impressed with the overall facility, the fenced in grounds and the professional staff. After a tour and seeing a number of dogs, we met Pheebe, a Retriever/Labrador mix, and soon was heading home with her and the needed supplies that the Care Center sends with you. Her stay over Thanksgiving soon extended into Christmas, then into the new year. We attempted to find her a good home by showcasing her on social media and brought her to an adoption event. Needless to say after no takers, we became foster failures and began the process of adopting her. Through the patience training of Jalyn and the Care Center staff Pheebe went from being fearful of people to a real love bug. She enjoys playing, seeking attention and having her belly rubbed. Looks like she is here to stay. We have also been partnering with the Care Center in regards to another abandoned dog we are fostering and soon heading to a new home. But that’s another story.

After working a full over night shift I showed up at 6:30am to stand in line behind 5 others that were waiting to see if they could adopt one of the rescued Havanese / Poodles. At 9:30 the gentleman came out and informed us there were only 3 left and they are going first come first serve and he would open at 11. The first three people decided to stay and the next two decided to leave. I waited in hopes that something would change. At 11 he came out and let the first person in to adopt... then the 2nd. He then came back out as the line grew behind me and stated that it is possible one more would be available But they wouldn’t know until the dog was medically cleared and that I was first in line for the dog if I chose to stay. well I did until 2:30 that afternoon ❤️ I’m happy to say she is now a pampered pup

I can’t say enough about the people who work here. The love and dedication they put into making sure these fur babies go to a good loving home is commendable. And if you have a chance to meet Sam he is one is a million! Thanks Sam for your hard work with these babies.

I got a 4 month old kitten from Petsmart on Friday. The kitty had a little sneeze, but I didn't think anything about it until later that night when the sneezing became more frequent. His little anal glands appear to be swollen and he has diarrhea. I fear he may have worms! I called the phone number listed 7 times between Mon and Wed to see if they're vets could prescribe something. In the meantime, I've been trying to get him into other vets. I was not prepared to adopt a sick kitten. I wish someone would at least answer the phone. I appreciate what they are doing but a $500 vet bill is going to greatly put me behind on this month's budget.

My almost 4 year old pit got spayed here this past Monday (currently Saturday morning) & you'd never know. Her wound is so clean & damn gone. Got my appointment back in August but it flew by as time does lately. The pricing is beyond fair especially in todays economy. She came back with all updated shots, spayed, nails trimmed, 3 month heartworm/flea/tick meds & a microchip. They have different package options to fit the needs of your cat/dog. The staff was welcoming & on time. I will be using & reccomending these guys for years to come.

Shelters are full even for injured dogs apparently. Would have been fine to have just been turned down but after calling again because I was told they had to take a dog that was injured, or at least see it since there is a vet on staff, I got told, with an attitude, what the supervisor said was final and hung up on. Poor customer service and hospitality.

What a great experience ❤️ since they are so full, my family and I decided we were going to adopt. They were offering free adoptions, and our boy came with a goodie bag of miscellaneous items, it was really amazing! We are so proud to be the new owners of our Frankie boy, he is truly such a sweetheart. So well behaved for his breed and size, house trained, and so gentle with my little ones. 10/10 recommend!
